Title |
Cufflink |
||
Description |
English: Silver disc, stamped with circular scalloped border. The scallops are divided into four sets of two divided by a small triangular shape. The front of the cufflink has images of two hearts under a Crown. The flanged edges show damage and have been bent towards the reverse of the cufflink. The reverse has a loop in the centre that is soldered on, attached to this is an oval link.
Dimensions:
Thickness: 3.8 mm Discussion: The motif of two hearts under a crown was used to symbolise the marriage of Charles II and Catherine of Briganza in 1662. The style remained in fashion through the early 18th Century. A similar example can be found in the TAR 2005/6: p 138 (ref 613), 2005 T168. This type is commonly recorded throughout the Treasure Act. In terms of age and as the object contains a minimum of 10% precious metal it qualifies as Treasure under the stipulations of the Treasure Act 1996.Janina Parol |
