Croydon: The 'Pitlake Arms'

Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Croydon: The 'Pitlake Arms' This public house, popular with students and real-ale drinkers, stands at the junction of the stub-end of Lower Church Street with Waddon New Road. The name is of interest, for 'Pitlake' is the name of a street in Croydon which is now entirely on the north side of the railway. In former times, it crossed the railway and emerged onto Lower Church Street, but when the Roman Way flyover was built, the eastern end of Pitlake disappeared, so now it has no easy connection with the Pitlake Arms.
