Summary
[edit]DescriptionCrow Nest Junction and Signal Box - geograph.org.uk - 863189.jpg |
English: Crow Nest Junction and Signal Box Crow Nest Junction is the point where the railway route from Wigan to Manchester via Atherton diverges from the line to Manchester via Bolton. The railway line veering right in the photo is towards Atherton, the one to the left is heading for Bolton. The British Rail-era signal box here opened in 1972 and replaced a much larger signal box opened by the Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway in the late 19th Century. Until 1968 a third line diverged here, heading northwards to join the Bolton to Chorley line near Blackrod. |
