Description
Español: Pero un cuadro tenía continuamente obsesionada la mente del artista: desarrollar una visión nueva y original de un Cristo en la Cruz. La obra, en la que ya venía pensando desde mucho tiempo atrás, fue comenzada a mediados de la década de los 40, e iría tomando forma en una larguísima gestación, no exenta de innumerables vicisitudes y controversias. La génesis del cuadro fue realmente compleja, tanto en la cristalización conceptual y formal como en el tiempo utilizado en su realización, que obligaron al pintor a encontrar soluciones a las problemáticas plástico-expresivas e historicistas que anhelaba, realizando rigurosos estudios arqueológicos, antropomórficos, teológicos y formales que se materializaban en multitud de bosquejos que no llegaban a convencer a su autor y que iba destruyendo cada vez que no lograba liberarse del lastre anterior.
