Summary
[edit]DescriptionCountryside north of the Graianfryn Road - geograph.org.uk - 1295797.jpg |
English: Countryside north of the Graianfryn Road The large house in the centre of the image is Gronant. This was the country house of one of the many branches of the powerful Bulkeley (Bwcles in Welsh) dynasty. One of the most colourful of the Gronant squires was Owen Bulkeley, the 18thC curate of Llanddeusant, who regularly appeared in the pulpit in a highly intoxicated state and who would regularly toast the Devil on the grounds that if Satan did not exist there would be no need for the clergy. |
