Collection: Willard Dickerman Straight and Early U.S.-Korea Diplomatic Relations, Cornell University Library Title: Corean women fulling clothes Date: ca. 1904 Place: Asia: South Korea Type: Postcards/Ephemera Description: Two women holding two wooden 'pangmangi' (sticks) in their hands, are fulling clothes. Fulling clothes was a women's chore done usually in the evenings, after the kitchen work was finished for the day. When the clothes were still slightly damp after washing, they were folded and fulled on a flat board which is called 'tadumidol'. Women used a long and rounded wooden stick in each hand for fulling, which is called 'tadumi pangmangi'. As a result the clothes acquired a certain glossy surface sheen, which lasted for a considerable time.
