Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Copper
Locality: White Pine Mine, White Pine, Ontonagon County, Michigan, USA (Locality at mindat.org)
Size: 12.5 x 9.5 x 4.5 cm.
A fine, sculptural, cabinet sheet of native copper from the White Pine Mine of Michigan. This striking thick sheet looks like a torn, folded, curved and curled piece of tree bark with a nice coppery patina. Native copper was deposited in shale beds of the Nonesuch Shale, explaining the sheet-like form, but this piece must have been deformed during copper deposition. The White Pine was the last major copper mine to close in the historic Copper Country.
