Summary
[edit]DescriptionCopehill Down mock village, near Chitterne - geograph.org.uk - 454124.jpg |
English: Copehill Down mock village, near Chitterne. This image shows an unnamed village where no-one lives. It contains fake houses and an imitation church. Built in 1986, architecturally it is reminiscent of German villages, which reflects the perceptions of the military strategists in the cold war years who expected a land war to take place on the plains of Germany. There is a brief reference to the village in 'Two Degrees West' by Nicholas Crane (p309) as it being a representation of a central European village for 'FIBUA' training ('fighting in a built-up area').
