Rückseite: SPES - PVBLIC // CONS [Spes Publica]. Ein Feldzeichen (labarum) auf eine Schlange am Boden gesteckt, auf dem rechteckigen Feldzeichentuch drei Punkte. Die Stange ist oben gekrönt von einem Christogramm. Im l. F. A.

Kommentar: Die Rs. zeigt mit dem ein christliches Symbol tragenden Feldzeichen über der Schlange einen deutlichen Hinweis auf die religiösen Präferenzen des Kaisers. Die Schlange, welche für die chtonischen, unterirdischen Mächte steht, und in der Antike durchaus positiv verstanden wurde (vgl. etwa den Heilgott Aeskulapios), erscheint hier als Symbol für Unterlegendes und Überholtes.
