Summary

English: Constable's favourite church tower must have been that of Dedham's 661648, judging by the frequency with which it appears in the background of his pictures. It is visible from many points in Dedham Vale - compare 1159347. Many of the best views are visible from land that is now 1208726.
Some people assert that he sometimes moved the position of the tower in his paintings to maximise its effect as a focal point. The view here is across the end of the small Riber valley. The house in the foreground is the recently extended Gosnall's Farm. The view is foreshortened by the zoom setting used. |
