Description
Español: En el Casco Antiguo, de la Ciudad de Panamá, encontramos las ruinas del antiguo Convento de la Compañía de Jesús. Construido en 1749, este edificio de la Compañía, llegó a ser uno de los mejores edificios religiosos de Panamá. Albergando en su interior a la Real y Pontificia Universidad de San Javier hasta el año de 1767, cuando el Rey Carlos III decidió la expulsión de la Orden de la Compañía de Jesús de todos los dominios españoles. El edificio se mantiene en ruinas desde 1781, cuando gran parte de la ciudad fue afectada por un incendio. Esta obra constaba de columnas pareadas en ambos cuerpos con un arco de medio punto para el vano de su entrada. Su masiva torre parece que no llegó a concluirse mostrando aún vacíos nichos de movido derrame flanqueado lo que parece fueron vanos de iluminación al cubo que debió ocupar la escalera de caracol al campanario. Hoy esta fachada se oculta tras un legado muro de lo que iba a ser la fachada para un edificio de apartamentos
