Columbushaus, Berlin post-war. postcards, 1951 The Berlin W9 post office was located in Linkstrasse 3, right on the border, so was popular for people in the Western sectors. However, the foreign postcard [6pf overleaf] was sent by a collector in Erkner called Pette. The stamp had only just been issued on April 22, between the date the card was written and posted [April 20 and April 26] to commemorate German - Polish accord over the Oder-Neisse line. The Columbushaus accommodated a Handelsorganisation store on the undamaged ground floor, postcards produced for the 1951 Festival of Students and Youth. It was subsequently burnt out in 1953 and bulldozed since it occupied a border position. <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Potsdamer_Platz" rel="noreferrer nofollow">en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Potsdamer_Platz</a> <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Columbushaus" rel="noreferrer nofollow">en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Columbushaus</a> The former Woolworth store on the ground floor of the Columbushaus had become A. Wertheim, in the short period before the HO took over the department store. |
