| Description |
Despite the surrender of most Confederate forces in April 1865, war continued in the West. On May 13, 1865, Union Colonel Barrett attempted to seize Brownsville, Texas. At Palmito Ranch, he was driven back by Confederates under the command of Col. RIP Ford, giving him the dubious distinction of losing the last battle of the Civil War. |
