English: NEW YORK - Lt. Cmdr. Scott Rae, Coast Guard Cutter Sturgeon Bay's commanding officer, explains how an icebreaking ship works while students from Rippowan Cisqua School, based near Bedford, N.Y., look on during a day trip on the Hudson River Feb. 17, 2010.
The 8th grade physics students spent a day onboard the Sturgeon Bay learning how a ship works so they can design a submarine for a school project. The crew members of the Sturgeon Bay, homeported in Bayonne, N.J., are active participants in the Partnership in Education program.
