English: Coast Guard personnel from the Coast Guard Cutter Northland visited Cartagena and Proveidencia, Colombia, during UNITAS exercises in the western Caribbean Phase of the annual UNITAS exercise hosted this year by the Colombian Navy. UNITAS is a series of high-tech surface, air and under-sea naval exercises designed to strengthen multinational cooperation and interoperability in support of the U.S. policy of engagement in South America. It presented a unique opportunity to improve the already high level of operational readiness and teamwork enjoyed by the U. S. Coast Guard and U. S. Navy with South American naval forces.
