Cnapan

Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Cnapan Restaurant occupying a Georgian house in East Street. The name is taken from an ancient game played in the area, said to resemble 'organised chaos' and possibly to be the forerunner of rugby football. It involved opposing teams trying to wrest control of the cnapan ball - no holds barred. Until recent years there was an annual contest between Newport and the neighbouring village of Nevern but insurance cover became too expensive!
