Description
English: Clonmacnoise Castle The remains of the castle sit inside a large earthwork that was surrounded by a moat that was fed by the River Shannon. The castle was built to provide protection for the nearby monastery, but it was eventually blown up during an English raid. These are a few of the pieces that remain.
