| Description |
English: Clingmans Dome Road in Great Smoky Mountains National Park on a clear April morning following snowfall the day before. The road had just reopened on April 1 after closing for four months during the winter. This photo was taken just under an hour after sunrise (to right of this image) and the air was about 25°F (-4°C). This section of road was sheltered from the wind (which came over the mountain from the left of image) but the light breeze blew some of the powdery snow into the air, causing the appearance of flurries. The left foreground has a section of rock face that is wet year-round. Ice against the rock here had water trickling behind and appears dark in this photo, while icicles away from the rock face and starting to melt in the direct sunlight appear clear and bright. Time on camera EXIF file was not changed for Daylight Savings Time (it was actually 8:09EDT/7:09EST). |
