Summary
[edit]DescriptionClimbing the Rock at Eshaness - geograph.org.uk - 799390.jpg |
English: Climbing the Rock at Eshaness. This is a telephoto shot taken shortly after 799363 which demonstrates the nature of the rock on the Eshaness cliffs.
The rock is a pyroclastic breccia - effectively a collection of small stones cemented together by volcanic ash and lava. The rock in places is pocketed where the constituent stones have been weathered out. The pockets formed by this process, the natural roughness and the surprising solidity of the breccia makes the rock ideal for climbing. |
