Classes of photoplethysmogram (PPG) pulse wave shape: Examples of the four classes of pulse wave shape proposed by Dawber et al.

Summary

[edit]
Description
English: The shape of the photoplethysmogram (PPG) pulse wave typically changes with age. Younger adults often exhibit a second peak, which diminishes with age.

The data used in this figure are finger PPG pulse waves, measured using infrared reflection mode photoplethysmography, and taken from the Vortal dataset, described here: https://peterhcharlton.github.io/RRest/vortal_dataset.html

The first two waves were recorded from young, healthy subjects (aged 18-39), and the latter two waves were recorded from elderly, healthy subjects (aged 70+).
