Summary
[edit]DescriptionClass 47707, Barrow Hill - geograph.org.uk - 1603736.jpg |
English: Class 47707, Barrow Hill At the end of the steam era, I lost interest in the railways, but in 1983 I took my 6-year-old son on a few trainspotting trips and gained interest once more. The following year this locomotive, Class 47707, was involved in a fatal accident when pushing its train, which had became derailed.
When passengers board a train they will most likely not be aware that on occasions a heavy locomotive is at the rear propelling them along the track at speeds of up to 100mph and sometimes even more. The high-speed electric trains usually leave the capitol with Class 91 locomotive running first and on the return journey, the locomotive is at the rear. A Class 91 weighs 81.5 tonnes and has been run at speeds of up to 140mph. Class 91019 - https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/107170 Class 47/7s were run as push-pull between Glasgow and Edinburgh and 47707 is seen here on that service as it passes Eastfield depot When locomotive hauled trains were replaced on that service with units, some of the 47/7s were used on parcel trains. 47707 was named Holyrood. |
