Les Atikamekw sont les autochtones de l'aire qu'ils appellent eux-mêmes Nitaskinan (littéralement "notre terre" en Atikamekw, Aski voulant dire terre), dans la partie supérieure de la vallée de la rivière Saint-Maurice (Québec). Leur nom, qui désigne aussi dans leur langue le Grand corégone (ou poisson blanc), est parfois aussi écrit Attikamekw, Attikamek ou Atikamek. Le langage atikamekw, qui est une langue algonquienne très proche des dialectes cri, est toujours utilisée quotidiennement. |
