| Description |
English: Swansea - Cheltenham St James' stopping train east of Churchdown. View westward at Badgeworth Box, towards Gloucester and South Wales, also Swindon etc. on the ex-GWR; Gloucester, Bristol etc. on the ex-Midland. (See other scenes at Churchdown). The signalbox (left) was built when the two-track GW&LMS Gloucester - Cheltenham bottleneck was quadrupled in 1942 to cope with wartime traffic - but reverted to double-track in 1967. The train is headed by Hawksworth '9400' class 0-6-0PT No. 9441 (built 3/51, withdrawn 9/63) - probably only from Gloucester. In the distance can be discerned an LMS 4F 0-6-0 running tender-first back to Gloucester. |
