Description

An air view of Chicago, Illinois in 1974. The downtown area is in the center of the photo. The most prominent structures are Sears Tower (left center, now Willis Tower), Standard Oil Building (white, now Aon Center), and John Hancock building (with double antennas at the north end of downtown).

Other landmarks are Meigs Field (closed in 2003, and being redeveloped as a series of parks, and nearby McCormick Place, the world's largest convention center. The Soldier Field football stadium is also nearby. Navy Pier juts out into Lake Michigan. The "Gold Coast" is in the haze at top left. The geotagged location is Grant Park.

The back of the photo is stamped September 1974. It has marvelous coverage and good lighting, but loses a lot to the matte finish. I could not find the original slide. Perhaps another member of my family took it.
