Description
English: Aquatint print by Georges Maile, 1841, after the painting Charlotte Corday by Mélina Thomas, exhibited at the Salon de Paris of 1838 and now in the collection of the Musée de la Révolution française, Vizille.

Dramatic historical picture of the French nobleman Charlotte Corday (1768-1793) in her prison in the Conciergerie in Paris. On the small table is her letter to the deputy Barbaroux, in which she justifies the murder of the revolutionary doctor and politician Jean Paul Marat (1743-1793) as a patriotic act. Below the representation in the printing plate inscribed: "Charlotte Corday. God is my Judge / Dieu seul est mon Juge". Signed "Mlle THOMAS PINXt" on the left below the image and "ENGRAVED BY G. MAILE" on the right. The sheet bears an embossed stamp in the middle at the bottom of the sheet margin: "F SINNETT EDITEUR PARIS".
