Summary

[edit]
Description

French WW2 era heavy tank The Char B1 is one of the most recognisable French tanks of WW2. It was originally designed with only the 75mm howitzer in the hull, the turret with its 47mm gun was added before production began. Over 400 were built between 1935 and 1940, with around a dozen known to survive. This is one of three in the museum collection and used to be in running order, although one of the other two is now more commonly active. It was previously at the Etablissement d’Etudes et de Fabrications d’Armement de Bourges (EFAB) (Bourges Armament Study and Manufacturing Establishment). It is seen on display in the “France 1940” hall. Musée des Blindés, Saumur, Pays de la Loire, France
