La chapelle de Miègecoste, doit vraisemblablement son nom à sa situation "à mi côte", on sait déjà qu'au XVème siècle on y venait en pèlerinage de tous les environs. L'esplanade (en prolongement de la chapelle) avait été aménagée pour accueillir les foules. Pendant un temps une petite communauté de prêtres s'établit même à côté. On y vénère une Vierge noire, de type "vierge en chemise", installée là au XVIIème siècle. Incendies et pillages ont ravagé la chapelle. Grâce à la générosité du Cardinal Sourrieu, la chapelle acquiert, à la fin du XIXème siècle, son apparence actuel. La statue de la Vierge noire est d’une hauteur de 105 cm. Son originalité vient de la constitution du corps de la Vierge : le corps de la sculpture est constitué d’un morceau d’arbre, à peine travaillé. https://www.hautegaronnetourisme.com/activites/chapelle-miegecoste/
