Each of the 12 channels has a 'dongmai' (beating pulse, channel pulse. The termdongmairefers here to the location on the surface of the body where the pulse of the channel can be felt. The illustration shows a robust man in middle age. His hair is fastened in a topknot and he wears a cloth and elaborate sash around his waist. The locations of thedongmaiof the 12 channels are marked with circles on his body, e.g. thetaiyuan(Great Abyss) point on the lung channel of handtaiyin; theyinxi(Yin Cleft) point on the heart channel of handshaoyin; thechongmen(Rushing Portal) point on the spleen channel of foottaiyin, etc. Wellcome Images |
