[edit]DescriptionChalk Farm station 2024-05-01.jpg |
English: Ever since I caught a few episodes of the series "Secrets of the London Underground" I've noticed more and more details around underground stations.
Today was my first visit to Chalk Farm, and I love the details. A heritage sign reveals the following: Chalk Farm station opened in 1907, and was originally on the Golders Green branch of the Charing Cross, Edgware and Hampstead railway (now the Northern line). The architect was Leslie Green - and he designed all the stations owned by the UERL group (Underground Electric Railways of London), to make sure there was a corporate look. Chalk Farm station is a fine example, with its multiple identical arches, red glazed terracotta facade, and designed with the potential to build more on top - although this never happened here. |
