Description

This image of Hartlepool's Great Timber Yard Fire in 1922, shows a woman in the process of evacuating her belongings to an area of safety. Thanks to the efforts of firefighters from around 5 different services, the spread of the fire was slowed enough to enable residents to rescue precious furniture and belongings, before their homes were enveloped by the flames.
