Summary

Description	Châlons-en-Champagne (Marne) Cathédrale Saint-Étienne. La cathédrale a été consacrée par le pape Eugène III en 1147. De l'ancienne cathédrale romane du XIIe siècle ne subsistent que la base de la tour Nord et la crypte . Après l'incendie de 1138, le transept nord est reconstruit. La nef et le transept sud sont reconstruits en style gothique au XIIIe siècle (Un nouvel incendie en 1230 amène une large reconstruction).Un déambulatoire avec trois chapelles est ajouté à la fin du XIIIe. La nef est agrandie au XVe siècle. Au XVIe siècle, une flèche est ajoutée à la tour nord. La façade occidentale, baroque, du XVIIe siècle, a été dessinée par l'architecte Claude Monnart. En 1668, la foudre tombe sur la flèche de la tour nord, les dégâts entraînent la reconstruction de l'abside. La cathédrale a été restaurée et largemnt modifiée au XIXe siècle (suppression des chapelles latérales, suppression des flèches érigées après 1668, reconstruction de la façade du croisillon sud).
