Description

Dawn Framing Camera image of Ceres, taken from its highly elliptical XMO7 orbit. This image captures the night side of the asteroid. Without a bright lighting source, the only way to see the asteroid is from its silhouette against the background stars. This image was taken looking in the direction of the 4th magnitude star I Carinae.

This image was taken by the Dawn spacecraft on August 21, 2018.
