Constitui o mais importante conjunto arqueológico descoberto em Lamego que ilustra a dinâmica de transformação da cidade ao longo de mais de dois mil anos da sua história. Dispostos em "camadas" sobrepostas, os vestígios proporcionam uma "viagem no tempo", desde a mais recuada ocupação residencial daquele espaço, nos períodos romano (sécs. I a V) e suevo-visigodo (sécs. V-VII), quando a cidade foi promovida a sede episcopal, passando pela sua transformação num cemitério (sécs. IX-XI), abandonado para dar lugar à nova cintura muralhada da cidade (sécs. XII-XIII) e ao casario que está na origem do urbanismo actual do Bairro do Castelo. O visitante dispõe de um percurso que permite a leitura das estruturas arqueológicas acompanhada de uma videoprojeção e da exibição de objectos encontrados no local, com destaque para um importante tesouro monetário romano, do nal do séc. IV, bem como de peças de cerâmica, vidro e outros objetos ilustrativos do quotidiano de quem habitou aquele espaço ao longo do tempo.
