Summary
[edit]DescriptionCentre Céramique, viergodensteen (5).jpg |
English: Detail of a so-called "four deities stone", an ancient Roman monument that served as a base for a Jupiter column (Dutch: viergodensteen; German: Viergötterstein), found in 1903 at the entrance of the Basilica of Our Lady in Maastricht, Netherlands. The stone dates from 200-225 AD. The reliefs on the four sides represent the gods Jupiter (with a globe), Fortuna (with horn of plenty - depicted here), Apollo (with raven and lyre) and Hercules (with a club). Collection: Centre Céramique, Maastricht. Photographed in 2018 in a window display of a public café adjacent to the Centre Céramique. |
