Title
Lion with the coat of arms of the State of Fribourg
Description
The armour-bearing lion sits on the lowest post of the staircase leading up to the pulpit in the Cathedral of St. Nicholas in Fribourg. It was created by a sculptor named Hans. It is not entirely clear whether this could mean a Hans von Zürich (from the working group around Hans Felder, who was himself an architect and possibly also employed sculptors). It is more likely, however, that it is Hans Geiler, who also executed other works for the city of Fribourg at this time.
