Description
Deutsch: Das Kastell Gholaia, das durch antike Quellen auch als castra Chol(aia), [G]olas sowie in der Tabula Peutingeriana als Chosol überliefert ist, war ein römisches Militärlager, das für Sicherungs- und Überwachungsaufgaben am vorderen Limes Tripolitanus, einem tiefgestaffelten System von Kastellen und Militärposten, in der römischen Provinz Africa proconsularis zuständig war. Blick von Süden über die rückwärtigen Portikus der Principia. Auf älteren Photos der zweiten Hälfte des 20. Jahrhunderts trägt der zweite Pfeiler von rechts noch einen kapitellartigen, monolitischen Bogenansatz, der an den Außen und Innenseiten plan zum Pfeilerschaft gearbeitet ist.
