Summary
[edit]DescriptionCastell Rhyfel - geograph.org.uk - 519547.jpg |
English: Castell Rhyfel Apparently, this end-of-the-ridge top at the southern tip of the Garn Gron plateau is a prehistoric hill fort. While there are some bumps in the grass which could have been part of a circular earth wall, it takes an expert to be conclusive about this. The name Castell Rhyfel means war castle. Interestingly, a nearby farm in SN7260 is called Gwar-castell, which seems to be a "cymrisized" version of the English translation.
More details can be found in the Coflein[1] entry for Castell Rhyfel http://www.coflein.gov.uk/en/site/303624/details/CASTELL+RHYFEL/ . For views of the hill fort from an attacker's perspective, see https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1803528 and https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1803607 . |
