English: Castell Cynffig / Kenfig Castle.
Adeiladwyd y Normaniaid gastell mwnt a beili yma yn gynnar yn ystod y deuddegfed ganrif. Yna yn ystod y 13g codwyd castell newydd ar y safle o garreg ac adeiladwyd mur hefyd a amglychynai'r bwrdeistref. Dros y ganrifoedd fe ymosododd y Cymry ar y castell droeon o weithiau. Yn ystod y 14g gwnaed gwaith cynnal a chadw arno ond rbyn yr 16g roedd y castell yn adfail. The invading Normans constructed a motte & bailey on the site during the early C12 and by the C13 the castle had been rebuilt with stone and greatly altered. A wall also enclosed a small town and borough. The Welsh attacked and ravaged the castle on numerous occasions. Maintenance work was carried out on the castle during the C14 but by the C16 the fortress had become abandoned and ruinous. |
