Title |
Cast copper alloy belt stud or mount |
||
Description |
English: Probably a cast copper alloy belt or strap stud dating from the late Roman to post-medieval period, i.e. c. AD200-1700. The stud is complete and in good condition and is very similar to LANCUM-7F9072 which is a Roman belt stud from the same site. It is circular in shape and the vertical cross-section is H-shaped. The obverse/side that was not hidden from view was decorated with a moulded circle and there may have been some additional enamel in the groove on the outside, but none of it remains now. The bigger circular terminal which would have been hidden from view is plain. This particular stud is slightly better-made; that means it looks as if it could have been machine-made which is the reason for its broader age-range. |
