It was the hour of four in the after-noon when our troops started in questof Osman Dignas camp, unaccompaniedby a Naval Brigade, owing to thedifficulties of the road for the convey-ance of machine guns; and, in conse-quence of sickness and recent casualties,the present expedition was a somewhatweak one. The old zeriba was reached abouteight in the evening by General Grraham,after a most harassing march, duringwhich more than twenty-five per cent,had to succumb to the heat, and therewere many cases of sunstroke. The rear of the column resembleda routed army, the men marchingwithout their rifles, wrote a correspon-dent ; and it was really sad to see somuch suffering for an object which isnot clearly understood.
