Nome Científico Seu nome científico significa: do (grego) brotogërus = com voz humana; e do (guarani) chiriri = nome indígena para esta ave. ⇒ Periquito chiriri com voz humana. Características Apresenta uma faixa amarela nas coberteiras superiores das rêmiges secundárias de cada asa, isto é, na região superior das asas, e uma coloração amarelo-esverdeada em sua face. Os indivíduos adultos medem de 22,0 a 23,5 centímetros de comprimento, a cauda 10 centímetros e as asas cerca de 12,5 centímetros. Possui bico resistente e de cor branco-amarronzada, com o qual parte seu alimento. Ao redor de seus olhos escuros, existe uma delimitação branca formada apenas pela pele. Possui difícil diferenciação sexual. No território nacional, ocorre desde o sul ao extremo do Pará (serra do Cachimbo), Ceará, Maranhão, Piauí, Pernambuco, Bahia, Minas Gerais, Pantanal, Rio de Janeiro e São Paulo.
