Summary
[edit]DescriptionCasa das Histórias Paula Rego 01 (5787880153).jpg |
The Paula Rego Museum (formally known as the "House of Stories Paula Rego") was built as a home to an extensive collection of works by Paula Rego and her late husband Victor Willig. Rego herself selected Eduardo Souto de Moura as the architect of the project. The museum, which opened in 2009, is located in the seaside town of Cascais, about an hour by commuter train from Lisbon. Souto de Moura says that the design is based on traditional elements of local architecture - although one would be hard pressed to find anything vaguely resembling it any number of miles around. It is strikingly exotic and mysterious. Yet he must be right at some level, because the building, while in complete contrast to its surroundings,is surprisingly easy to accept and love. |
