English: President Barack Obama applauds retired Marine Corps Cpl. William "Kyle" Carpenter after the president awarded Carpenter the Medal of Honor during a ceremony at the White House in Washington, June 19, 2014. Carpenter became the eighth living recipient of the Medal of Honor from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan for his heroic actions Nov. 21, 2010, when he shielded a fellow Marine from an enemy hand grenade with his body. At the time of his heroic actions, Carpenter served in Company F, 2nd Battalion, 9th Marines, Regimental Combat Team 1, 1st Marine Division (Forward), I Marine Expeditionary Force (Forward), in Helmand province, Afghanistan.
