Description
When Iceland celebrated 1,000 years of settlement in 1874, the king of Denmark, Christian IX, paid a visit to the island as its sovereign. A small naval division was formed for the journey across the North Atlantic, consisting of the steam frigate Jylland and the steam corvette Heimdal. The King was lodged aboard the Jylland. Baagøe's painting had suffered some damage to the area above the masts.
