English: International Symposium In Dortmund Pays Tribute To Carl Djerassi
Carl Djerassi’s literary work was the focus of a 3-day international symposium at Dortmund University, April 23-25. The university conferred an honorary doctorate on Djerassi not for his scientific achievements as a chemistry professor at Stanford, but for his more than 25 years as a novelist and playwright. Numerous panelists, many of them former colleagues, examined Djerassi’s major themes: interdisciplinary questions between culture and the natural sciences, transatlantic cultural phenomena as well as the legacy of German-language exiles in the United States. The symposium was hosted by American studies Professor Walter Gruenzweig and sponsored by the U.S. Embassy and Consulate General Duesseldorf. |
