Summary
DescriptionCarentan Église Notre Dame Vitrail Baie 23 2014 08 24.jpg |
Église Notre-Dame, Carentan, Manche, Basse-Normandie, France English: Medieval stained glass created c. 1470 in the 23rd bay (fourth north window of the north aisle) with four lancet lights depicting (from left to right) a bishop as saint, possibly Léon de Carentan, Apostle James the Greater, Catherine of Siena, and Saint Peter. Some restorations were executed in 1929 by Charles Daumont-Tournel. In 1986 Michel Durand added the missing lower panels of the first and fourth panel depicting how the church was burned down and how it was erected again. This refers to the destruction the church suffered in the Hundred Years' War after which the church was restored and most of the stained glass works which survives until today were created. See p. 124 in Martine Callias Bey and Véronique David: Les vitraux de Basse-Normandie, ISBN 2-84706-240-8. Please note that the panels created by Michel Durand are still covered by copyright and may not be cropped but just included as its presence in the picture is unavoidable, see COM:FP#France - Freedom of Panorama "de minimis" exception. |
