Description
English: A signature of Carel Gustaf Tregard, possibly from c. 1742. C. G. Tregard (b.20 Nov 1717 Synnerby, Sweden, d.19 Jul 1767 Cape colony, South Africa) was the son of Jacob Trägårdh, captain of the cavalry, Sweden, and Maria Elisabet Soop. He arrived in the Cape in 1742 as an employee of the V.O.C., a so-called "vlaggeman" or flag officer, and later became a free citizen at Stellenbosch. He married Susanna Kuun on 11 Oct 1744 with whom he had two children, Jacobus Gustavus (1745–1818) and Carolus Johannes (b.24-7-1753), who was the father of voortrekker Louis Tregardt.
