Description
Español: El caracol común de jardín (Helix aspersa), originario de Europa, es una especie de molusco gasterópodo pulmonado de la familia Helicidae, de vida terrestre.

Se caracteriza por su periostraco pardo dorado característicamente interrumpido por bandas de color pardo. Su concha, de 30 - 35 x 32 - 40 mm, tiene 4 o 5 vueltas de espira y una abertura larga y oblicua, con el margen en los adultos blanquecino y reflejo. Los juveniles presentan un ombligo que ya aparece cerrado en los adultos. La cabeza poseé 4 tentáculos, de los cuales los superiores tienen en el extremo un órgano fotoreceptor que actúa a modo de un ojo bastante simple; estos tentáculos se pueden retraer en el interior de la cabeza. La boca está localizada bajo los tentáculos y en ella se encuentra una rádula para raspar el sustrato que le sirve de alimento.

Son hermafroditas, ya que ambos géneros producen gametos femeninos y masculinos.Es muy apreciado en gastronomía y su cría se llama Helicicultura.
