Description
English: Captain John Meek (1791–1875), came to Hawaii from Massachusetts in 1809 along with his father Captain Thomas Meek, and was among the foreign advisors of the Hawaiian monarchs. He was the captain of the Kalama, the inter-island schooner named after the dowager queen of Kamehameha III. He organized the first Masonic Lodge in Hawaii. He introduced turkey to the islands from Chile in 1815, mangoes from Manila in 1824, and tortoises from Mexico between 1812 and 1825.
