English: Italy, Livorno. Captain Fortunato Cassone was born in Livorno on November 25, 1828 and died on May 7, 1889. As Lieutenant aboard of the frigate San Michele was decorated in 1861 with the Silver Medal for military valor after the Siege of Gaeta. On December 12, 1872 as commander of the escort vessel Vedetta left La Spezia for a mission of political nature in the Far East Asia and reached Penang on February 24, 1873. In the following months he stopped in various ports and off the China overcame a violent typhoon despite the poor stability of the ship. Most of the navigation of return was sailing, after reaching Suez on 14 February the escort vessel Vedetta moored at La Spezia on April 5, 1874.
Captain Fortunato Cassone was then at the command of the Regia Marina ship Dora which transported on March 15, 1875, from Naples to Tangier, the gifts of King Vittorio Emanuele II to the Emperor Hassan I of Morocco on the anniversary of the accession to the throne. From November 1, 1882 until September 16, 1884 Captain Fortunato Cassone has been the second in command of the Regia Accademia Navale and participated twice as the Commander of the training ship Vittorio Emanuele. In 1883 the instruction cruise started from Livorno on 14 July and reached the following ports: Genoa, Barcellona, Cartagena, Gibraltar, Cartagena, Port Mahon, Siracusa, Pozzuoli, Castellamare di Stabia, Gaeta, Portoferraio, Livorno where arrived on 10 October. In 1884 the instruction cruise started from Livorno to: Gibraltar, Brest, Portsmouth, Wilhelmshaven, Dartmounth, Plymounth, Gibraltar, Olbia, Livorno and ended in Naples on 6 November. |
